The advancement of (collagen) Fillers has reduced the need for more aggressive procedures such as facelifts. Since the aging process involves loss of volume in the face and subsequent deflation of the forehead, glabella, cheeks, jowls, and chin, Fillers may be used to replace the deficit and produce a more youthful appearance.
What Areas Can Be Enhanced With Fillers?
In the past, Fillers were used predominantly to fill the lips and in the nasolabial folds (parenthesis lines). They may still be used in these areas; however, current techniques have changed to reverse the actual causes of aging and not just the effects it causes. As the cheek ages and deflates, it droops over the nasolabial fold, and jowls appear over the jawline. Dr. Cabbabe now prefers to reverse this process by filling the cheeks with Fillers. This restores volume to the cheekbones and raises the cheek to improve the nasolabial fold and jowls. Additional Filler can be used in the nasolabial fold if needed.
Fillers can also be used to rejuvenate the forehead, global (between the eyebrows), the temples, around the eyes and mouth, and the chin. The cumulative effect can be significant and stunning.
Dr. Cabbabe incorporates his experience with reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the face to give patients the best results possible to meet their desires. He is also an expert in minimally invasive cosmetic surgery on the face and has published on these topics. His patients have a natural, refreshed look after surgery.
Benefits of Collagen Fillers
Undergoing an invasive surgical procedure isn’t for everyone. It requires the use of incisions and a certain amount of downtime for recovery. Patients who prefer to enhance their features without surgery often consider collagen fillers to help solve their aesthetic problems. These fillers not only enhance the appearance of your skin but also provide long-lasting benefits and improved collagen production. This means your initial results will continue to improve over the course of time as your body begins to produce more collagen.
Candidates for Collagen Fillers
Good candidates for collagen fillers are men and women who are currently experiencing the early signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles, loose saggy skin, and a loss of volume that gives a deflated appearance. Patients should be in good general health and have realistic expectations about the possibilities of the procedure.
During your consultation, Dr. Cabbabe will carefully examine your entire face including the brow, upper and lower eyelids, face and neck. He will also ask you about your medical history to help determine if collagen fillers are the right option for you. If you have a history of allergic reactions, he may advise seeking other options for your facial rejuvenation. During this time, he will also make recommendations in order to help you achieve your desired result while maintaining facial harmony.
Preparing for the Procedure
Dr. Cabbabe will ask that you refrain from taking any aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, ibuprofen, or any other type of blood thinner. Dr. Cabbabe will precisely mark the planned injection sites.

The Procedure
Dr. Cabbabe will precisely mark the planned injection sites then clean them with alcohol or other product. The procedure length is 15-60 minutes on average. Topical or local anesthesia may be used. Many Fillers contain local anesthesia. Dr. Cabbabe always prefers to do nerve blocks before injecting the lips to prevent discomfort. Fillers are then injected in the desired site until the result has been achieved. Massaging is then done to smooth out the Filler in each area. No sutures are generally needed.
